If you don't love the official Twitter for Mac app and you've got 5 bucks to spend on an alternative, you'll be glad to see that Weet for Mac has reached version 1.0 and landed in the Mac App Store. Weet is one of the best Twitter apps on the iPhone, and the desktop version stacks up pretty well, too. It doesn't have the flashy UI of Twitter's official client, but it's got other advantages. Weet doesn't force you to shorten links with Twitter's t.co URL shortener, for one thing. It also allows you to mute specific usernames and block specific keywords, and has an option to hide the Weet window when the app loses focus. It even supports "old style" retweeting, and automatically inserts an "RT" for you.
Bottom line: Weet provides a solid set of features without becoming cluttered like some kitchen-sink Twitter apps, but whether it beats Twitter for Mac is still a matter of personal preference.
