Chrome OS R10 update fixes touchpad issues, 3G modem activation and Wi-Fi

Chrome OSYesterday, Google rolled out an update for Chrome OS, its browser-based operating system. Bringing Chrome 10 to Chrome OS, plus a quite a few fixes and tweaks, the biggest change is an update to the trackpad for the Cr-48 Chrome OS notebook. The trackpad now gains sensitivity and control settings, which according to Engadget, make a huge difference to its usability.

Other highlights include:
  • 3G modem activation fixes
  • 3G connection to the carrier fixes
  • Wi-Fi connectivity/Out of the Box fixes
  • New trackpad and sensitivity setting adjusted
  • Auto update engine and debugging improvements
  • Power optimizations
  • GTalk video/chat optimizations
  • Audio CPU utilization improvements
  • Improved on screen indicators: brightness, network status, update icon
  • Scratchpad application security vulnerability fix (included in Chrome 10)
Making the trackpad usable makes this update a big one for Cr-48 owners, but the general fixes and optimizations will likely help anyone who happens to be running Chrome OS on a custom netbook. Whether you think a browser-based operating system is the way forward or not, it's good to see Google continuing to improve and refine Chrome OS; after all, any competition and innovation in the OS market has to be good for consumers.
