Twitter for Mac update locks down secret backdoor, goes blue

Twitter for Mac secret menuTwitter for Mac has received an update -- which is now live in the Mac App Store. The updated version brings a new blue icon in place of the initial release's black one. The other noteworthy change is that the secret menu that was only available for MacHeist customers has now been removed.

Hitting a specific key combination would unlock that menu, as well as access to exclusive beta updates. These had been promised by Loren Brichter, the developer of Tweetie for Mac, before his company was acquired by Twitter and the app was re-launched as Twitter for Mac. Somehow someone managed to sneak these features into Twitter for Mac unnoticed. However, the 'backdoor' was apparently in violation of Apple's developer guidelines -- which is probably why it got removed in the end.

Those who have already unlocked the secret stuff will get to keep it, but new downloads of the app don't have access to it anymore.
